Brendan DeVenney, a member of the Saint Ignatius Class of 2017, has been in the Saint Ignatius Broadcast Network since 2014, where he began broadcasting Varsity Baseball. From there, in the fall of 2014, he had the opportunity to work on the Saint Ignatius Football Media Guide, as the head of the Student Sports Information Department, and has helped that grow ever since.
In the winter of 2014-2015, Brendan began to really jumpstart his broadcasting career by calling a full season of Junior Varsity Basketball for the Wildcats. He then had a lead role in the 2015 Wildcat Baseball season, going to Louisville with the team by himself to call the 2015 Super Prep Baseball Series, and followed the team all the way to Columbus for the Division 1 Ohio State Baseball Final Four.
In the fall of 2015, Brendan was promoted to the Varsity Football broadcast team, where he had phenomenal experiences that included a trip to Philadelphia and coverage dramatic final weeks of the season. In the winter of 2015-2016, Brendan had the honor of calling one of the best basketball teams ever to play at Saint Ignatius. The team played the toughest schedule in the state, with most games on the road, and made it to the Regional Final only to fall in a close, historic double overtime game at Cleveland State University in front of a sold out crowd.
In the spring of 2015, Brendan took the SIBN the furthest it has ever traveled to call a game: Florida! Alone with the baseball team, he called the spring break trip to the Sunshine State where the Wildcats played three nationally ranked teams. The baseball team would make a consecutive run to the State Tournament, as Brendan called an extra-inning, State Semifinal game at Huntington Park, where the Wildcats came up just short.
In 2016, he called the 2016 Varsity Football team’s run to the State Championship Game, falling in double overtime to St. Xavier. It was the first OHSAA State Championship to go into double overtime, and it was the second State Runner-Up for Saint Ignatius.
And finally, in the spring of 2017, DeVenney called the regular season for the Saint Ignatius Volleyball team, who went on to become the first volleyball team in the school’s history to win a State Volleyball Championship.
That wrapped up Brendan’s SIBN career, a career that saw him broadcast over 200 events, both athletic and non-athletic.
